Most likely a permisions issue...

I have experienced ,many issues trying to use UNC names from a Domino server/. This is especially true if your server is running as a Windows service. In this mode, the Domino server is running with no Windows user name like Administrator or John or Jane or whatever. It is running as part of the Windows server. If your \\appsrv01 is a different server than your Domino server, then you need to change the permissions on whatever folder you are trying to use to allow the proper access to the Service. It's my understanding that in Active Directory you need to grant access to account domino-server-name$ (i.e. the name of your Domino server followed by a $).
